Statistical Considerations for Agroforestry Studies
نویسنده
چکیده
Statistical topics that related to agroforestry studies are discussed. These included study objectives, populations of interest, sampling schemes, sample sizes, estimation vs. hypothesis testing, and P-values. In addition, a relatively new and very much improved histogram display is described. As the title implies, I would like to discuss various statistical topics that relate to agroforestry studies. I will cover a few points on study objectives, then move on to sampling and analysis, and finally describe a new data display technique.

There has been some decline in the land potential capacity in many developing countries, and depending on location, the multi objective management strategy of Agroforestry can make effective use of natural resources to be feasible.Environmental principles which are effective on Agroforestry systems and their components, together with climaticfactors, are the important parameters which been evalu...
متن کاملIndexing Soil Conservation: Farmer Perceptions of Agroforestry Benefits
Soil erosion poses economic and environmental concerns in many tropical uplands. Agroforestry has been proposed as a sustainable land use that can mitigate soil erosion and promote the economic welfare of small farmers. To evaluate such claims, we must (a) develop a composite measure of effectiveness, such as a soil conservation index, and (b) define it in terms understood by the farmers who ul...
متن کاملBirds as predators in tropical agroforestry systems.
Insectivorous birds reduce arthropod abundances and their damage to plants in some, but not all, studies where predation by birds has been assessed. The variation in bird effects may be due to characteristics such as plant productivity or quality, habitat complexity, and/or species diversity of predator and prey assemblages. Since agroforestry systems vary in such characteristics, these systems...

Agroforestry practices can improve the adaptive capacity and resilience of local farming and subsistence systems while providing livelihood benefits to households. However, scaling up of agroforestry technology has often proved difficult. Many studies have been carried out to explain the lack of tangible impact, based mainly on formal household/farm surveys comparing characteristics of non-adop...
متن کاملThe excess-zero problem in soil animal count data and choice of appropriate models for statistical inference
Recent studies show that soil animal count data are characterized by the presence of excess zeros and overdispersion, which violate the assumptions of standard statistical tests. Despite this, analyses have consisted of mainly non-parametric tests and log-normal least square regression (i.e. ANOVA). Failure to accommodate zero inflation in count data can result in biased estimation of ecologica...
